Tinubu Congratulates India’s Modi on Becoming Longest-Serving Elected Prime Minister

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in India’s history, describing the achievement as a reflection of the confidence and trust reposed in him by the Indian people.

In a message issued on Tuesday, President Tinubu hailed Modi’s leadership over three consecutive mandates, noting that his dedication to public service, commitment to national development and influence on the global stage have continued to inspire millions across the world.

“I warmly congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the historic milestone of becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister,” Tinubu said.

The Nigerian leader described Modi as not only a great friend of Nigeria but also a personal friend and trusted ally, expressing admiration for his wisdom, courage and commitment to the progress and prosperity of India.

“Beyond being a great friend of Nigeria, Prime Minister Modi is a personal friend and trusted ally whom I can always count on. Over the years, I have come to deeply admire his wisdom, courage, and commitment to the progress and prosperity of his nation,” he stated.

President Tinubu also highlighted Modi’s contributions to strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and India, noting that the Indian leader is a recipient of Nigeria’s national honour, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON).

According to the President, Modi has played a significant role in deepening the bonds of friendship, cooperation and mutual understanding between both countries.

On behalf of the government and people of Nigeria, Tinubu wished the Indian Prime Minister good health, wisdom and continued success as he leads India to greater achievements.

The congratulatory message was issued from the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on June 9, 2026.
