The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has confirmed the death of a corps member in Abeokuta, stating that the circumstances surrounding the incident are currently under investigation.
In a statement issued by its Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, the Scheme expressed deep sorrow over the loss and extended condolences to the family of the deceased.
The NYSC also acknowledged reports in the media alleging the involvement of a staff member, confirming that the individual in question has been taken into custody by security agencies.
According to the statement, investigations are ongoing, with the Scheme pledging full cooperation with law enforcement authorities to ensure that the truth is established and justice served.
The NYSC reiterated its commitment to maintaining strict discipline among its personnel, stressing that it will not tolerate any form of misconduct or abuse of office.
It further urged members of the public to avoid speculation and allow due process to take its course.
The Scheme emphasised that the welfare, safety and dignity of corps members remain a top priority.
