The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has urged Nigerians to disregard suspicious posts from its official X account following an attempted unauthorised takeover of the account.
The warning was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba.
Uba said the incident was being handled as a cybersecurity matter, adding that technical measures had been activated to protect the account and prevent further unauthorised access.
He said efforts were ongoing to regain full control of the account and advised members of the public, media organisations and other stakeholders to verify any information purportedly released through the platform.
The DHQ warned that misleading or unauthorised content could be posted from the account during the period and urged Nigerians not to rely on such information.
The military authorities reassured the public that they remained committed to protecting official information and providing accurate and credible updates on the activities and operations of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
It advised Nigerians to follow its verified communication channels on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp for official information while the issue with the X account is being resolved.
The DHQ said further updates would be issued as necessary and appealed to the public to remain vigilant.
