Senegal Rejects CAF Verdict, Heads to court

The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has fiercely rejected the latest ruling by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeals Board, saying it “ denounces this unfair, unprecedented, and unacceptable decision, which discredits African football.”

Recall that Sparklight News reported that CAF had overturned its earlier judgment on the disputed Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 clash between Senegal and Morocco, in which Senegal won by 1-0 to awarding Morocco a 3-0 victory by forfeit.

In its official response, the FSF said it had taken note of the Appeals Board’s justification, that Morocco’s right to be heard was not respected during the initial proceedings, but strongly disagreed with both the reasoning and outcome.

CAF ruled that Senegal breached Articles 82 and 84 of AFCON regulations, a decision that effectively reversed the earlier disciplinary verdict and handed the win to the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (RMF).

However, Senegal’s football body insists the ruling undermines fairness and casts doubt on the integrity of African football governance.

Determined to challenge the outcome, the FSF confirmed it will immediately escalate the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne.
