Olatunji Disu, Inspector-General of Police has warned that officers who misuse firearms will face immediate dismissal and prosecution, as he undertook an operational visit to Akwa Ibom State and presided over the passing-out of 1,068 retrained constables in Uyo.

DCP Anthony Placid, Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) in a statement, indicated that the visit included a courtesy call on Governor Umo Eno, where discussions focused on strengthening collaboration to support ongoing policing reforms centered on professionalism, accountability, and intelligence operations.

The IGP reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to building a modern and service-driven institution that prioritizes public trust and operational efficiency, while the governor pledged continued support for security agencies in safeguarding lives and property in the state.

At the Police Mobile Force Base, 26 PMF, Uyo, the IGP presided over the passing-out ceremony of the retrained constables, describing the programme as a strategic effort to enhance operational competence, discipline, and adherence to rules of engagement.

He stressed the importance of professionalism, restraint, and respect for human rights in policing, noting that effective service requires not just courage but strict compliance with established standards, including Force Order 237.

The police boss also commended the Commissioner of Police in the state, Baba Mohammed Azare, for the successful execution of the retraining exercise, highlighting the inclusion and performance of female officers as a model for commands nationwide.

The IGP further acknowledged recent operational gains, including the rescue of kidnapped victims along the Calabar–Oron waterways, attributing the successes to intelligence-led policing and improved inter-agency cooperation.
